What's New in 2018 FIAT 124 Spider?

You know the Italian roadster for its three iconic trims: Classica, Lusso, and the high-octane Abarth. Now, the sports car is back and bringing the time-honored driving experience in a new generation, 50 years in the making.

For one, the new FIAT 124 Spider Lusso and Abarth, for instance, will now offer more flexible packages, making your dream personalization project a matter of course. Plus, it's received an all-new special edition, called Red Top. Moreover, there are three new colors available -- Puro Bianco Perla, which is a tri-coat white pearl hue; Grigio Chiaro, also known as Silver Metallic; and Blu Scuro, which is a Dark Blue Metallic sheen.

Best of all for 2018, the new 124 Spider is calling back to the original Spider of Centro Stile and Turin, Italy fame, offering a low-slung, well-balanced stance, a standard 1.4-litre MultiAir Turbo four-cylinder engine (a first for rear-wheel-drive two-doors), and in Classica and Lusso trims, 160 horsepower (a best-in-class) backed by 184 pound-feet of torque. Expect an even more spirited ride in 124 Spider Abarth, which can put out 164 horsepower at 184 pound-feet. Pair either with the six-speed manual or automatic transmissions available and factor in dual-pinion electric power assist steering, and you can count on a drive tailored to your handling preferences.

Of course, there's more to the new 2018 FIAT 124 Spider where these came from. It's double-wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension is tuned for stability during braking and turning, for instance. What's more, its acoustically dampened front windshield and insulated design help reduce noise vibration and harshness (NVH) for a more pleasant atmosphere than ever, and striking aesthetic cues range from a dual-tip exhaust, black-finish roll bar in 124 Spider Classica to a stylish silver-painted A-pillar header in Lusso. That's not to mention that Abarth gets a front and rear sport suspension by Bilstein, mechanical limited-slip differential, and a sport-tuned chrome quad-tip exhaust with the highly recognizable Abarth sound, among other elements.
